Science Curriculum Intent
The Science curriculum fosters a healthy curiosity in children about our universe and promotes respect for the living and non-living as well as aspiring to contribute positively to the wider world. At Sunnyside Primary Academy, our bespoke curriculum builds on prior learning and experiences whilst also catering to the individual needs of the children we teach. Using the National Curriculum, we have adopted a thematic approach which makes links in learning.
Achievement
Children achieve through a range of experiences that allow them to achieve their full potential and gain scientific knowledge. We aim for children to develop a strong understanding of the world around them, whilst acquiring specific skills and knowledge to help them to think scientifically.
Perseverance
We teach our pupils to persevere in order to develop their own ideas and investigate whilst working systematically. Scientific skills that we plan for our children to develop include observations, planning and completing investigations, evaluating and retesting ideas.
Responsibility
Children learn responsibility though the understanding of nature, processes and methods of science and how this impacts the local community and the wider world. We also teach the responsibility for using scientific vocabulary correctly.
Aspiration
Children learn that Scientific discovery has changed the world over time and impacts on our everyday lives today. They also learn that scientific development is essential for the future. At Sunnyside Primary Academy, we aim to encourage children to be inquisitive throughout their time at the school and beyond and aspire to be the scientists of the future.
