Special Educational Needs
'Ensuring every child achieves’
Sunnyside is committed to ensuring that every child has access to a provision that enables them to develop their abilities and ambitions; supporting them to grow as successful learners and members of our community. We recognise that pupils learn in different ways and at difference paces. We strive to celebrate this whilst supporting them to achieve.
At Sunnyside, we aim to support you and your child. Sometimes children need special support to give them an extra boost or to help them catch up with other children of the same age. They may need this support for a short time or a longer period, but during this time they will be part of our Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Register and we will keep a close eye on their progress. Children on the SEN register have individual learning plans which focuses upon what the next steps in learning are. Children may also have a one page profile, this supports transition as it gives strengths and development points, as well as their interests as well as providing information to visitors or other professionals. In November 2021 we were awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark for the third time running. Please read the report below.
We use B-Squared as an assessment tool to track all the little steps a child who is working significantly below the expected range of attainment makes whilst with us. Progress summaries are shared with parents regularly throughout the year.
All pupils have access to the curriculum. They are supported through quality first teaching and suitable adjustments that are personalised to the individual child. This may include adapted tasks, intervention, scaffolds, chunked tasks to name but a few.
If you are concerned about your child then please arrange a meeting with Mrs Clements, our school SEND Leader. This will include adaptations which can be made in class, a possible referral to an outside agency or intervention. Either way, she will be able to reassure you and point you in the right direction.
